Roy
and Ralph Brown of Orange Heights, Fla., were practicing agroforestry
before it had that name. Today the farm is an example of successful
agroforestry practices.
A
CSTAF-sponsored research project to study environmental benefits
of agroforestry is showing promising results for the use of
silvopasture to absorb nutrients that otherwise could
contaminate groundwater, and to sequester carbon.
Sarah
Workman attended the meeting of the Caribbean Food Crops Society
to present work she and CSTAF colleagues have undertaken on St.
Croix. She presented the paper “Methods,
Scale and Systems Thinking: Working with Stakeholders
in Reforestation and Biodiversity Conservation on St. Croix,
USVI.”
Undergraduate students
completed the School of Forest Resources and Conservation's first Web-based distance education course,
Agroforestry for the Southeastern U.S. in the spring.
Seven students completed the course, FOR 3855, developed and
taught by CSTAF Assistant Director Michael Bannister.
