Agroforestry Briefs UF Graduate Students Work in Haiti Two Haitian doctoral students at UF began their field research in Haiti with the USAID-funded Hillside Agricultural Program. Raphael Pierrre and Gιrard-Alain Michel traveled to Haiti in May to work on small farm agroforestry systems. Pierre is developing economically appropriate agroforestry systems involving fruit trees and crops for small-scale hillside agriculture. Michel is exploring ways hillside farmers can increase their production through improved soil fertility. Development Alternatives Inc. of Bethesda, Md., is the prime contractor for the project.
