UF Graduate Students Work in Haiti

Two Haitian doctoral students at UF began their field research in Haiti with the USAID-funded Hillside Agricultural Program.

Raphael Pierrre and Gιrard-Alain Michel traveled to Haiti in May to work on small farm agroforestry systems. Pierre is developing economically appropriate agroforestry systems involving fruit trees and crops for small-scale hillside agriculture. Michel is exploring ways hillside farmers can increase their production through improved soil fertility.

Development Alternatives Inc. of Bethesda, Md., is the prime contractor for the project. UF is a subcontractor.
